I’ve always been a better safe than sorry kind of girl. So the fact that deodorant may be linked to breast cancer is enough for me to make a switch. The problem has been finding a suitable alternative. I’m a girl that sweats. Not the healthy glisten kind, but the sweat rolling down my back while I’m cleaning the house kind (thanks, Dad). The simple fact is that natural deodorant are not as effective as traditional deodorants, and while I want to be safe and healthy, I also do not want to be a sweaty, stinky mess.
My general experience with natural deodorants is that they are difficult to put on due to their texture, they irritate my underarm skin, and some even stain my clothes. I also found myself sweating more. All of these are small annoyances in the grand scheme of things when you’re talking about your health, but still, it was downright frustrating.
I kept seeing bloggers talking about Native deodorant, so I finally decided to grab one for me and one the hubby. He’s fine with regular deodorant, but was willing to humor me. I’ve been using it for about a month now, and boy I am a fan! It goes on smooth (like normal deodorant), smells fantastic (I have the Coconut & Vanilla), and does a pretty darn good job of preventing sweat and stink. I also haven’t noticed any staining on my clothing or skin irritation.
So what’s in Native deodorant? Let’s start with what’s not in it: aluminum, parabens or sulfates. They also never test on animals. A quick visit to their website will show you ALL of the ingredients, and I for one appreciate that kind of transparency.
From my husbands perspective it “seems fine” and he “doesn’t notice any difference.” There you have it, a resounding endorsement! But seriously, that’s the most excitement I’m going to get from him when it comes to deodorant. And the fact that he continues to wear it without complaint is the best feedback I can expect.
The cost isn’t too bad either at $12 a piece. And it’s pretty easy to find a promotion. Target is currently selling them buy one, get one 25% off. The Native website is offering $10 off a purchase of $30, so you can grab this 3-pack of the classic scents for only $20 with code NEWYEAR (that’s less than $7 each!).
If you’re looking to make the switch to a natural deodorant in the new year, I highly recommend you give this one a try!
